TEAM DEBRA Spotlight: Suzanne Head in the Flying Pig Marathon
Joining our endurance team, TEAM DEBRA, in the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, OH on May 4-5, 2024 is the amazing Suzanne Head. Suzanne will be taking on the Half Marathon in memory of her daughter, Harlee Bass, who lived with Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (RDEB).
“TEAM DEBRA has had my admiration for many years. The dedication it takes to run a marathon or half marathon is not unlike the dedication it takes to care for a child with EB,” Suzanne shares. “It is hard work, but it has great rewards. My daughter, Harlee Bass, was diagnosed with RDEB at birth. Although she was a shining light to many and had a personality that drew others to her, she lived a life of constant severe pain for over nineteen years. Hours of dressing changes, painful baths, and hundreds of doctor visits, labs, procedures, and surgeries were part of our daily routine as we tried to lead an average life. Harlee was far from average though. She was debra's Spirit Award winner in 2016. She was salutatorian of her senior class. She ran her race in this life with grace and faith. Harlee was loved beyond measure by all who knew her.
When I decided to run the Flying Pig Half Marathon, I knew if Harlee could persevere every day of her life, I could run this race! I began a free training program and met a group of local runners at 5 AM to help hold me accountable. Running this half marathon will help keep Harlee's memory alive, raise awareness of EB, and raise monetary donations for debra of America. Every little bit helps, and I am proud to join TEAM DEBRA in raising hope!”
We are immensely grateful for Suzanne's dedication and determination to honor her daughter's memory and for supporting debra’s mission. Her courage and strength exemplify the spirit of TEAM DEBRA!
As Suzanne prepares to tackle the Flying Pig Half Marathon, we invite you to support her efforts by donating towards her personal fundraising goal.
