EB Community Member, Megan Gosselin, to be Honored with Spirit Award

On Saturday, October 26, 2024, Megan Gosselin will be honored with the Spirit Award at the debra of America Benefit at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, CA. RSVP here!

The debra of America Spirit Award recipient is a person with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) in the United States who possesses great courage and strength in the face of EB. Recipients rise above the daily struggle of living with this rare disease to serve as an example to others in their community and the world at large in understanding EB.

“I’m incredibly honored to receive the 2024 Spirit Award,” Megan shares. “It validates the hard work I’ve put into sharing my journey with EB to improve the lives of others in our community. I’m committed to continuing this fight until we find a cure.”

Born with EB Simplex into a family that had never heard of the disorder, she grew up balancing the challenges of EB with an active childhood filled with soccer practices, cross country meets, and keeping up with her five siblings. Megan’s passion for STEM led her to earn an engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and a master’s in supply chain management from Penn State. Today, she works as an engineer while devoting her free time to fundraising for debra of America, cooking, and traveling with her family. She’s also the proud mother of four—Elliott (8), Blair (6), Charlotte (3), and Tucker (1)—and is now navigating life as an EB caregiver to her youngest son, born in 2023 with EB.

In 2014, Megan started dash4debra, a supporter-led event that started as an idea on her couch and grew into a major fundraiser for debra of America. With the help offamily, friends, and the EB Community, the event has flourished, raising over $340,000 to date and bringing critical awareness of EB to her hometown of Lake Forest, IL.

Megan has also been a vocal advocate for the EB Community. In 2016, she participated in debra’s Externally-Led Patient-Focused Drug Development Meeting with the U.S. FDA. The following year, she joined #TEAMDEBRA, our charity endurance team, running the 2017 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. She shares that she “took great pride in running all the miles for those with EB that cannot.”

debra looks forward to celebrating Megan and her extraordinary achievements at the debra of America Benefit on October 26th!
